Cuba Mission
The Cuba Mission at NNUMC is Alive and Well!
This mission is a real grass roots “bring souls to Christ” mission. The mission is based on Matthew 28:19-20:
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even until the very end of the age.”
Some people may think that Hispanic countries are mostly Christian (and primarily Roman Cathlolic); however this is not the case in Cuba. Because of the persecution of Christians during the revolution and the first 30 years of communist rule, only 20% of Cubans at best are Christians. The Cubans who are Christians, especially at our sister churches, are very strong evangelical Methodists who go out into the community and proactively bring the Word to the people.
We as a church currently support two churches in the Holguin district of Cuba. We support them in many ways, from pastoral salary to feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and general upkeep of the buildings.
Our Sister Churches
El Buen Pastor is a “big” church of about 150 people who worship at a very historic old church from the 1940′s.
La Trocha is a more rural smaller church with about 60 members, run from Pastor Jose’s home.
Ways to Get Involved:
There are many ways to help out and fulfill the Great Commission. If you would like to help our Cuban brothers and sisters in their path to Christ, please contact our coordinator of this effort Christian Derby. You can go to Cuba or stay home to support this ministry. We need financial support as well as specific items and need fulfillment.
